Where in the world is Courtney?

Between August 2011 and approximately July 2012 I will be laughing, eating, dancing, praising, crying, working, and relaxing in the Holy Land. Specifically, I will be volunteering in the West Bank..

The West Bank is a Palestinian territory that is currently under Israeli military occupancy, as it has been since 1967. It is thus surrounded by the state of Israel on all sides, except for the eastern border which it shares with Jordan, as well as being touched by part of the western shore of the Dead Sea. There is a population of just around 2.5 million people in the West Bank, among which there are Muslims, Jews and Christians.

To navigate through the West Bank as well as into East Jerusalem, I will go through checkpoints daily. Such checkpoints are set up in the name of safety, requiring the proper paperwork (in my case, my visa-laden passport; in the case of many Palestinian's, proper permits and identifications as given out by the Israeli government). There are also "flying checkpoints" that may pop up at any time/place. You thought it was a nuisance to need a passport to go to Canada?
